A familiar detective duo is heading back to screens with a fresh setting and bigger stakes. The CW has officially added a new spin-off of the popular Canadian series starring Wild Cards’ Jason Priestley. The move signals the network’s continued push into character-driven procedural dramas.
The CW picks up Private Eyes West Coast with Jason Priestley
The CW Network has greenlit the spin-off titled Private Eyes West Coast, led by Jason Priestley and Cindy Sampson, who return as Matt Shade and Angie Everett. The show builds on the original detective comedy-drama that ran for five seasons and developed a steady fan base. Corus Entertainment initially ordered this new chapter and already has a second season confirmed (via Deadline).
Unlike their earlier setup, the story shifts the duo to the West Coast, where they attempt to start over. Their plan for a quieter life quickly falls apart when they stumble into a murder case. A woman found with a bloody knife becomes the center of suspicion, but Shade and Angie believe there is more to the story. That belief pulls them straight back into investigative work.
The season follows their struggle to rebuild from scratch in a new city. Without their old contacts in Toronto, they face fresh challenges while taking on intense cases. These range from searching for a missing student in British Columbia to dealing with dangerous suspects along the coast. The shift in location adds a new tone, mixing scenic settings with high-risk investigations. The show will air later this year on The CW.
Behind the scenes, the show comes from Lionsgate Canada and Piller/Segan. Priestley also directs two episodes while serving as an executive producer. Network president Brad Schwartz said the team is “thrilled” to bring the series into the fall lineup, praising its mix of humor, action, and strong chemistry. Lionsgate’s Jocelyn Hamilton added that the network is the “perfect” platform to continue the story of these characters.
