The upcoming action-adventure anime Kagurabachi has finally revealed its release month in a new teaser trailer that offers a brief look at what fans can expect. It is based on Takeru Hokazono’s manga of the same name, which began serialization in 2023. Within two and a half years of its launch, it has sold over 4 million copies. Additionally, it has become one of the most popular titles in Weekly Shonen Jump.
Kagurabachi sets anime release month with teaser trailer
Weekly Shonen Jump editor-in-chief Yu Saito announced the Kagurabachi anime at Shueisha’s Jump Press livestream. After quickly touching upon the manga’s success, he showed off the teaser trailer.
Clocking in at just 45 seconds, the footage briefly highlights the art style before focusing on the main protagonist, Chihiro Rokuhira. A sequence of two shots shows him fending off some opponents and brutally killing enemies seated at a table. The clip ends with him declaring, “I have to cut them down,” before revealing the release month, April 2027.
“Young Chihiro spends his days training under his famous swordsmith father. One day he hopes to become a great sword-maker himself,” the manga’s official description reads (via Manga Plus). “The goofy father and the serious son–they thought these days would last forever. But suddenly, tragedy strikes. A dark day soaked in blood. Chihiro and his blade now live only for revenge. Epic sword battle action!” it further reads.
CyPic or CygamesPictures Inc., best known for shows like The Summer Hikaru Died, is producing the anime. Toyo Keizai Online reported that the anime was in development in December 2024 (via Anime News Network).
Tetsuya Takeuchi, whose previous credits include Naruto, Bleach, Hunter x Hunter, and Jujutsu Kaisen, is directing it. Meanwhile, Taihi Kimura, who previously lent his voice to Nippon Sangoku and Liar Game, is the actor behind Rokuhira. Keigo Sasaki, who worked on shows like Blue Exorcist and The Seven Deadly Sins, provides the character designs.
An uncut version of the first 20 minutes of the anime’s first episode will be screened during a world tour scheduled to start this summer (via Kagurabachi Brasil/X). It will end in Spring 2027, followed by the premiere of the full first episode.
