The first set of reactions to the upcoming sequel have been posted, and they suggest Mortal Kombat 2 is about to deliver exactly what disappointed fans of the 2021 reboot demanded. With select audiences treated to advance screenings ahead of official reviews, the early buzz points to a film that listened hard to criticism and fully embraced its video game DNA.
Reactions to Mortal Kombat 2 are in ahead of reviews
Mortal Kombat 2 reactions read like a checklist of everything the fanbase asked for. One attendee confirmed the controversial Arcana concept from the first film is gone. “Mortal Kombat II ignores the Arcana stuff entirely. Basically the Midichlorians of Mortal Kombat 2021. They took all fan complaints very seriously.”
That pivot toward authenticity has viewers calling the sequel a massive improvement. “Mortal Kombat 2 is the movie we should’ve gotten the first time,” one reaction stated. “It feels more confident and comfortable embracing its video game roots to huge benefit. It’s a fun, fast-paced, ridiculous bloodbath with great action. Kitana is the heart of it. Kano is hilarious,” it added.
Fight choreography also got specific praise, with one viewer breaking down the martial arts accuracy. “I was looking at Kung Lao’s moves and he def uses Wing Chun which I LOVE. Johnny Cage gave me a lil Jack Burton Big Trouble in Little China vibes,” they wrote. Karl Urban’s performance as Cage appears to be a standout alongside Josh Lawson’s returning Kano, with multiple reactions singling them out as comedic relief.
The unapologetic brutality is also getting loved. One enthusiastic reaction called it “non-stop KRAZY KOMBAT action” with “Fatalities next-level savage.”
A separate post declared it “high-octane & packed with a ton of great references,” adding that while they personally loved the first film, “this one is a level above.”
Warner Bros. Pictures releases Mortal Kombat 2 in theaters on May 8, 2026.
