Meaghan Oppenheimer is moving forward with her next television project after wrapping her hit Hulu drama. The Tell Me Lies creator has lined up a fresh series at the streamer, with a major studio backing the development. Early details suggest the show will explore the familiar territory of messy family dynamics and buried secrets.
Meaghan Oppenheimer’s new drama series Bastards in development
Meaghan Oppenheimer is developing a fresh drama series titled Bastards at Hulu, as reported by Variety. She will serve as both writer and executive producer on the upcoming project. 20th Television, where Oppenheimer holds an overall deal, will produce the series.
Oppenheimer submitted the script for Bastards shortly after Tell Me Lies completed production. Hulu and 20th TV reportedly responded to the material with strong enthusiasm. Both companies are now accelerating the project through their development pipeline.
Meanwhile, the logline centers on a world-famous artist who becomes embroiled in a public scandal. Her three adult children, each fathered by a different man, must return to their childhood home. There, they reunite to care for a teenage sister they hardly know. Eventually, the siblings will face their inheritance of love, cruelty, and chaos as buried dynamics resurface.
Bastards stands as a separate project rather than a sequel or spin-off to Tell Me Lies. The third and final season of Tell Me Lies aired on Hulu earlier this year. Carola Lovering’s book of the same name served as source material for that series. Grace Van Patten and Jackson White headlined the show. The series tracked the relationship between two college students across eight years.
According to Disney, all three seasons have streamed for over 350 million hours across Hulu and Disney+ since 2022. Previously, Oppenheimer wrote for AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead. Additionally, she created the Facebook Watch series Queen America, headlined by Catherine Zeta Jones and Judith Light.
Beyond that, Oppenheimer penned the ABC pilot Broken starring Anna Paquin and Blair Underwood, with Bruna Papandrea and Reese Witherspoon executive producing. In film, she also wrote We Are Your Friends, featuring Zac Efron and Emily Ratajkowski. Currently, CAA, Untitled Entertainment, and Yorn Levine Barnes represent Oppenheimer.
