Marvel’s Wonder Man once featured a dramatically grotesque death scene for a fan-favorite character. The show explores the impact of the entertainment industry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
What character originally had a gruesome death scene in Wonder Man?
In Wonder Man, Josh Gad plays himself. One scene sees his MCU counterpart go missing and is eventually presumed dead. In a new interview with Gold Derby, Gad said that, originally, he was going to have a “hilariously gruesome” scene in Wonder Man that confirmed the MCU version of him was truly dead.
“My character originally got fully severed. His body completely came apart, and I died! Part of the reason why I signed onto do this was this hilariously gruesome death scene.”
The show eventually showed Gad entering and, consequently, disappearing into DeMarr “Doorman” Davis’ portal. The event led to place the Department of Damage Control putting Davis under lifelong surveillance. This led to the MCU’s Hollywood adopting the “Doorman clause”, which forbids any superpowered beings from working in the entertainment industry. The clause becomes Simon Williams’ biggest challenge when balancing his acting duties with hiding his powers.

“I recorded a bunch of dialogue where it was just me inside of Doorman just kind of living my life,” Gad added. “At one point, that was going to play over the end credits. I like that they kept their options open — horrific death or Josh Gad living like Jonah in the whale, just living life inside of somebody’s gut.”
Gad also confirmed plans to bring back his MCU version in Wonder Man season 2. “I’m very interested to see where that narrative will take us,” said Gad.
Wonder Man is streaming on Disney+.
