MCU fans have eagerly anticipated the possibility of Daredevil appearing in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The release of the first trailer further fueled that speculation, as it showed Peter Parker fighting ninjas of The Hand. However, the final episode of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 suggests that Matt Murdock may not be joining Spidey in fighting his old enemies.

Comic readers have been hoping to see Daredevil and Spider-Man team up in the MCU for some time. The two heroes are frequent allies in the comics. Additionally, Charlie Cox had a cameo as Peter Parker’s lawyer opposite Tom Holland in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, the latest episode of Daredevil: Born Again leaves Matt in a place where the possibilities of him fighting alongside Peter are less likely.

Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 ended with Matt Murdock revealing his secret life as Daredevil in court. He did this both to save Karen Page from prison and to expose the crimes of the Kingpin. The season ended with Wilson Fisk forced out of office and exiled from New York. However, Matt was also disbarred as a lawyer and incarcerated pending trial.

This is not entirely unexpected, given the comics that inspired Daredevil: Born Again. The Daredevil run of Brian Michael Bendis (who is a producer on the show) ended with Matt Murdock imprisoned after his secret identity was exposed. However, the circumstances were wildly different than in the MCU.

In the comics, Matt’s identity was revealed against his will and he denied being Daredevil publicly. Kingpin was also arrested and imprisoned in the same facility as Matt, along with Bullseye and The Punisher. All these characters are still at liberty in the MCU at the end of Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.

Will Spider-Man 4 feature Daredevil in the prison fight?

The one aspect of the “Devil in Cell Block D” storyline that seems likely to make it into Spider-Man: One More Day is Daredevil’s enemies coming at him in prison. However, the original storyline did not feature Spider-Man or The Hand. This means little, however, as the MCU Spider-Man movies have only loosely adapted various comic book storylines.

Additionally, photos from the set of Daredevil: Born Again Season 3 have shown Matt Murdock in prison. This means that the theory that Peter Parker will help him escape prison will not come to pass. However, there is still a chance Matt Murdock might fight alongside Peter Parker, even if he remains in prison so he can get his day in court. It would not be the costumed battle that fans of Spider-Man and Daredevil hoped for, but it would be something.
