There’s a major update regarding the writer of the Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, just days after a recent report. Based on the hit video game franchise created by Scott Cawthon, the next installment will continue the story from 2025’s second film.
What is the Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 update?
Earlier this week, the World of Reel website reported that It Follows‘ director David Robert Mitchell was writing Five Nights at Freddy’s 3. However, a new update has clarified that it’s not Robert Mitchell, but Gary Dauberman who will write Five Nights at Freddy’s 3, reports The Hollywood Reporter.
Dauberman’s involvement as a writer aligns with his extensive experience in the horror genre. In the past decade, he’s been associated with some of the most popular and successful horror franchises, such as Annabelle, It, and The Nun.

His involvement is the first known creative update to come out regarding the third movie since Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 came out in 2025. It became a box office hit, much like the first film, and made over $230 million against a budget of $51 million.
As for the stories of the last two entries, they were written by Scott Cawthon. Emma Tammi directed both installments. While it’s not confirmed yet, she is expected to be back for the next movie as well.
Earlier this year, the third film also received a crucial update on its cast. It was revealed that actor Matthew Lillard will come back as William Afton for the next part. “We’re about to go do the third movie, and we’re in it together, and I’m going to kill him, I’m sure,” said Lillard during an interview. Skeet Ulrich will also return as Henry.
Blumhouse and Atomic Monster’s Five Nights at Freddy’s 3 has yet to receive an official release date window.
