Evil Dead Burn has just released its official trailer. Diehard fans will likely notice one thing: the latest entry in the Evil Dead franchise has returned to the original’s roots in one major way.

Set to hit theaters on July 10, 2026, Evil Dead Burn arrives three years after the Lee Cronin-directed Evil Dead Rise hit cinemas. Directed by Sébastien Vaniček, the upcoming film sees Deadites ruin a family reunion after one of them discovers an ancient book. As fans already know, this book is the conduit to a nightmare waiting to happen. It’s almost the same premise, but one key element sets Vaniček’s Evil Dead apart from Cronin’s.

Evil Dead Burn opted to stay true to the original, which Evil Dead Rise move away from. In the 2023 film, the reunion of two estranged sisters is cut short when a demon begins to wreak havoc in a high-rise apartment building in Los Angeles. There’s nothing wrong with bringing the Deadites to the city, as Evil Dead Rise proved to be a major success and a thrilling addition to the franchise, despite changing one of its hallmarks.

How is Evil Dead Burn returning to its roots?

Evil Dead Rise felt slightly different from its predecessors due to its location change. Part of what made the series so terrifying was its use of isolated settings, which have long been one of the franchise’s most recognizable hallmarks. This sense of isolation added even more intensity to the already terrifying premise. Fortunately, Evil Dead Burn appears to be taking viewers to the traditional cabin-in-the-woods setting, staying faithful to Sam Raimi’s The Evil Dead and Evil Dead II.

While Army of Darkness broke the usual pattern, the 2013 Evil Dead remake, directed by Fede Álvarez, returned to the same isolated setting. Based on the trailer alone, Evil Dead Burn might offer a nostalgic trip down memory lane, as the characters are being terrorized by the deadites in a secluded setting.

If there’s one thing isolated locations have proven, it’s that they make for a thrilling horror experience. The Cabin in the Woods and Hush are two great examples. This, of course, also applies to the rest of the Evil Dead films. Expect Evil Dead Burn to deliver the same type of stranded, claustrophobic frights.
