Oscar Isaac has been one of the most prominent actors in recent years, appearing in multiple franchises and productions, including Star Wars. Isaac played the beloved Resistance pilot Poe Dameron in the trilogy. But Isaac also has one favorite film out of the lot, and it is not a surprising choice. Isaac also spoke about the backlash faced by Rian Johnson’s The Last Jedi in the same discussion.
Oscar Isaac on his favorite Star Wars movie and The Last Jedi backlash
During his appearance on Josh Horowitz’s podcast, Oscar Isaac shared his thoughts on being part of the Star Wars franchise, where he played Poe Dameron, a Resistance pilot who appeared in all three films.
When asked which of the three films is his favorite Star Wars movie, Oscar Isaac chose Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The first installment of the trilogy has been widely received positively by audiences.
“My favourite part was the experience of doing the first one,” Isaac said on the podcast. “It was so wild. There was so much excitement, and everything was new.” He continued, “The singularity of that moment was amazing; getting to meet JJ, becoming close with him, John, and Daisy, and reuniting with Adam since he had done Llewyn Davis with me. It was all just such an exciting time.”
Isaac also spoke about Rian Johnson’s contribution to the franchise with The Last Jedi, which received a divisive response from audiences despite a strong critical reception.
When asked if he was surprised by the reaction to the film, he said, “Not really. I’ve grown up with fans and geeks. That’s basically been my family, so I know how much ownership people feel over these stories. But I also loved doing The Last Jedi with Rian.”
He added, “Getting to meet him, he’s so laid-back, sweet, and funny. He was really trying to make it his own, and I loved that. And getting to have Benicio in it, too, of course. It was an amazing experience to spend that much time in London. Yeah, it was great.”
Oscar Isaac remains a notable part of the Star Wars franchise.
Isaac’s latest series, Beef, is now streaming on Netflix.
