Elden Ring has announced its release date and official cast for A24’s live-action movie adaptation of the beloved video game.

When is the Elden Ring movie release date?

A24 and Bandai Namco Entertainment will release Elden Ring in theaters on March 3, 2028. Production begins this spring in the U.K. and will be filmed for Imax.

According to a press release, Tom Burke (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga), Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms), Sonoya Mizuno (Ex Machina), Jonathan Pryce (The Two Popes), Ruby Cruz (Willow), John Hodgkinson (Napoleon), Jefferson Hall (Oppenheimer), Emma Laird (28 Years Later: The Bone Temple), and Peter Serafinowicz (The Tick) have been added to the cast of Elden Ring.

The new additions join a cast headlined by Kit Connor (Heartstopper), Ben Whishaw (Skyfall), Cailee Spaeny (Alien: Romulus), and Nick Offerman (The Last of Us).

Alex Garland will write and direct the movie. Garland has previously directed four movies for A24, including 2014’s Ex Machina, 2022’s Men, 2024’s Civil War, and 2025’s Warfare. Elden Ring’s producers include Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich, George R. R. Martin, and Vince Gerardis.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Elden Ring budget is “well over $100 million.” Principal photography is set for around 100 days.

“Created under the guidance of FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, based on a mythological story written by George R. R. Martin, this action RPG debuted in 2022,” the press release states. “It allows players to explore vast environments and dungeons to discover the unknown and enjoy the sense of accomplishment that comes from overcoming obstacles and challenges.”

Elden Ring has surpassed 30 million copies sold worldwide.

Earlier this month, several set videos revealed the ruins of the Church of Marika. In the game, Queen Marika is the vessel of the Elden Ring, making her one of the most important characters.
