With Beef Season 2 currently streaming on Netflix, all eyes are pointed to the show’s future and the possibility of Season 3, which recently received an update. The show’s creator recently discussed the prospect of a third installment and his interest in working on it. As of writing, a third season hasn’t been officially renewed.
Lee Sung Jin on Beef Season 3 possibility
In an interview at the Beef Season 2 premiere, Lee Sung Jin, was clear about his intention to rest and catch up on some sleep after working on the script for three years, saying he was content with the second entry being the last.
However, he was open to working on a third outing if the opportunity presented itself. The Mothman writer added, “At the moment, I’m going to do this. Go home to my one-year-old daughter, and try to get some sleep.”
His response is different from his earlier, more concrete comments on Season 3. In an interview with Rolling Stone in 2023, he revealed he had ideas to continue the story beyond the inaugural installment, even though he gave the original a “conclusive feel.” He added that he had a “really big general idea” for the show, which he did not elaborate on. However, he stated that he had “three seasons mapped out in [his] head.”
Sung Jin’s above comments come shortly after Deadline reported that he had renewed his overall deal with Netflix, first inked in 2023.
If Beef Season 3 is ever realized, it will no doubt feature a new setting, story, and cast, in line with the pattern established by Seasons 2 and 1.
Beef Season 2, consisting of eight episodes, is currently streaming on Netflix. The sophomore installment follows a young couple who find themselves involved in a fight between their older employees. As of writing, it holds an 86% “certified fresh” approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes‘ Tomatometer. It also has a 63% audience score on the Popcornmeter.
Oscar Isaac, Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, and Cailee Spaeny lead Season 2. Also part of the cast are Youn Yuh-jung, Seoyeon Jang, Song Kang-ho, Matthew Kim, William Fichtner, and Mikaela Hoover.
