A Doctor Strange star’s 2025 fantasy action film has emerged as a major success on streaming. Following a limited release in theaters at the end of last year, it reached a broader audience via home streaming and has become an instant hit.
Dust Bunny is topping HBO Max’s streaming charts
Dust Bunny has made its way to the top of the streaming charts, currently ranked #1 on HBO Max’s Top 10 films in the United States, per Flix Patrol’s April 19 report.
It has surpassed other popular projects, including The Mummy, Ballerina, The Devil Wears Prada, and The Mummy Returns. Additionally, it also dethroned Sydney Sweeney’s Christy, which was leading the charts last week, and has now dropped to #6.
Bryan Fuller, known for NBC’s Hannibal and Star Trek: Voyager, wrote and helmed Dust Bunny. Furthermore, he reunited with Mads Mikkelsen, who played the titular role on the NBC series. In the 2025 film, Mikkelsen headlines as Resident 5B. The rest of the cast includes Sophie Sloan as Aurora, Sigourney Weaver as Laverne, David Dastmalchian as Conspicuously Inconspicuous Man, Sheila Atim as Brenda, and Rebecca Henderson as Intimidating Woman.
The story centers on Aurora, an eight-year-old girl who hires her hitman neighbor, Resident 5B, to kill the “monsters” under her bed that she believes “ate” her parents. However, the hitman tells her that her parents may have been killed by people who were trying to hunt him. This leads to a series of events that lead Aurora deeper into 5B’s violence-filled life.
Dust Bunny debuted at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival on September 9. It was later released in theaters in the United States on December 12, 2025. Made on an undisclosed budget, the film brought in roughly $1 million globally (via Box Office Mojo).
However, the film has received amazing reviews, with critics and audiences praising it for nearly all aspects, especially the balance of action and fantasy elements. On Rotten Tomatoes, it boasts a Tomatometer score of 86% and a Popcornmeter score of 82%.
