The world of Batman may finally be ready to expanding at DC Studios, as the director for the long-in-development Deathstroke & Bane movie may have been found.
Who might be directing the Deathstroke and Bane movie?
According to a new report from Deadline, Greg Mottola, who has already worked inside of the DC Studios universe, is the frontrunner to potentially direct the planned movie.
Deadline notes that others are in the mix, and that it’s still early in the search, but that Mottola might be the filmmaker with pole position. Mottola is best known for directing the 2007 comedy film Superbad, 2009 movie Adventureland, and 2011’s Paul, but he did recently direct two episodes of HBO’s Peacemaker.
The report from Deadline notes that the project remains in the early stages, and no script or contracts have been sent out yet, so it seems like we’re still a ways away from the movie beginning production in any meaningful sense.
A Deathstroke & Bane movie was first reported on in 2024, with Matthew Orton said to be writing the project.
The character of Bane is one of the more recent additions to Batman’s list of villains but has quickly become one of the most popular and recognizable. Originally debuting in 1993’s Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1, Bane has appeared in multiple live-action films, including 1997’s Batman & Robin and 2012’s The Dark Knight Rises, where Tom Hardy played him.
Deathstroke was introduced into the world of DC Comics in 1980 in The New Teen Titans #2, and is a former U.S. Army operative who has enhanced physical and mental abilities due to a super-soldier serum. The character has also become a fan-favorite over the years and has appeared in a ton of projects, most notably the animated Teen Titans series and the live-action Arrow and Titans television shows.
In film, Deathstroke was briefly played by Joe Manganiello in a scene in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.
