Netflix’s new video game had some of Hollywood’s top filmmakers work on it. The streamer recently released its interactive horror game starring Sadie Sink, Zoë Kravitz, and Troy Baker.
David Fincher and Zach Cregger received special thanks on Unhinged
As reported by Variety, filmmakers David Fincher and Zach Cregger played an instrumental role in bringing Unhinged to life. Both directors received a special thanks credit, and the streamer has not revealed more details about their involvement.
In Unhinged, players use their phones to control Ava, voiced by Kravitz, as they try to escape their apartment before it’s ravaged by a Category 5 Hurricane. The player’s only external connection is to Sink’s character, Claire, who keeps in contact with Ava via phone. Whenever Ava’s phone rings for a call or text, the player’s does too.
Zach Cregger is no stranger to video games, having expressed that he is a big fan of the Resident Evil titles. Cregger is also directing the upcoming Resident Evil reboot, which takes place simultaneously with the events of the first few Resident Evil games, despite not featuring any appearances from its characters. The filmmaker previously helmed Weapons and Barbarian, two celebrated horror movies.

Fincher has also dipped his toes into horror. His previous films, like Seven, have dealt with a suspenseful atmosphere, not unlike horror games. Fincher is currently working on The Adventures of Cliff Booth, a stand-alone sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Fincher’s collaborators, Jason Hill and Ren Klyce, who worked on Mindhunter and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, handled the sound design for the game.
Unhinged is developed by Night School Studio, the team behind hits like Oxenfree and its sequel. It is now available for Netflix subscribers.
