A 2016 R-rated buddy comedy, starring Reacher’s Alan Ritchson, is making its way out of Netflix in a few days. In addition to starring in the film, the actor also co-wrote the script, which features his unhinged character from the show on which the film is based.
Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland is leaving Netflix in a matter of days
On Friday, May 1, 2026, Netflix will remove Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland from its streaming platform.
Lev L. Spiro directed the film, while Ritchson shared the writing credits with Chris Romano and Eric Falconer. The film is a continuation of Spike network’s Blue Mountain State series, which was canceled after three seasons. To fund the film, the showrunners created a Kickstarter campaign and raised $1,911,827 from nearly 24,000 backers.
Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland centers on Alex, who is now in his senior year. Soon, a new dean arrives at the college and takes over the Goat House, which was the party hub for the college’s football team. To reclaim the Goat House, Alex turns to Thad, a newly appointed NFL player with money to spare. Thad agrees to buy the place only if Alex throws a wild party for him that exceeds his expectations.
The film stars Alan Ritchson as Thad, Darin Brooks as Alex, Chris Romano as Sammy, Ed Amatrudo as Dean Olivares, Frankie Shaw as Mary Jo, James Cade as Harmon, Omari Newton as Larry, and Lindsey Sporrer as Holly, among others.
Lionsgate handled the film’s distribution and released it on February 2, 2016, through Premium Video on Demand (PVOD) platforms. It later became available on Netflix starting March 1, 2016. The film ultimately failed to meet viewers’ expectations, resulting in low ratings on review aggregator sites. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a user score of 46%.
Netflix subscribers have only a few days left to stream Alan Ritchson’s Blue Mountain State: The Rise of Thadland on the platform.
