Wonder Man star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II recently offered an update on Season 2 of the series and its release date. In an interview, he hinted that its arrival on Disney+ is still quite far away. However, he offered some exciting ideas about the direction he wants the sophomore season to go in terms of the story. Marvel Television renewed the series for Season 2 last month.
Wonder Man Season 2 release date is far
Speaking with Josh Horowitz on Happy, Sad, Confused, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II revealed that he and Wonder Man series co-creator Destin Daniel Cretton haven’t begun discussing Season 2’s creative direction yet. He added that he was busy working on his upcoming films and television shows, which include Man on Fire and The Adventures of Cliff Booth, while Cretton is focused on Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which hits theaters on July 31, 2026.
However, the Candyman actor assured fans that the creative team was reuniting to bring the next chapter of Simon Williams’ story to life. He expressed his trust in their vision, but also said that he has some ideas about what he wants to do with the character. He clarified that he will only pitch his ideas once he sees what the series’ creatives have come up with.
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II shares Wonder Man Season 2 story ideas
After Horowitz pressed him for details, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II revealed what he wants to see in Simon’s story when fans next catch up with him.
Noting how fans saw the character on his journey to becoming a movie star in the first season, he shared that he wants Season 2 to explore what happens after Simon finally achieves his goal. “We haven’t really seen that,” the actor added. “The first thing he does is he says, ‘Okay, I’m gonna go get my break, and use this to sort of break my friend out.'”
He elaborated further, expressing interest in seeing Simon get some power in Hollywood that will allow him to make changes to a script and influence a movie’s direction. “What is he going to become? Have we created a monster?” he speculated. “I’m like, ‘Yeah, I think so a little bit.'”
The actor then said that the prospect of seeing Simon’s rise in Hollywood and its associated challenges was “interesting” when he thought about it.
