The new Netflix remake of 2021’s Black Box has received a great update.

Black Box is a 2021 French-Belgian mystery thriller movie directed by Yann Gozlan. Starring Pierre Niney as a character named Mathieu Vasseur, the movie — not to be confused with a 2020 sci-fi horror movie called Black Box, which was part of the Welcome to Blumhouse series — was nominated for a handful of accolades at the 2022 César Awards.

In December 2025, it was announced that Netflix was planning to remake. Tim Fehlbaum is attached to direct the new movie, and now, per Deadline, we know who will be writing the script.

Who will be writing Netflix’s remake of Black Box?

The new Netflix Black Box remake will be written by Adam Gyngell and Fred Fernandez-Armesto.

Deadline’s article explains, “Gyngell and Fernandez-Armesto are writing partners based in the UK whose credits include an episode of Idris Elba-led series Hijack for Apple TV and three episodes of Strangers for ITV. In addition to Netflix, they’re currently developing series and feature projects at Carrousel Studios and Thunder Road.”

The new Black Box movie will be produced by Andrew Mittman, Wassim Beji, Thibault Gast, and Matthias Weber. Kai Dolbashian serves as the executive producer.

The synopsis for the 2021 film reads, “Mathieu, a brilliant young black-box analyst with an extraordinarily acute ear, is charged with investigating a deadly plane crash. Progressively obsessed by inexplicable evidence that doesn’t add up, and spiraling further and further into the realm of paranoia, he gradually loses credibility at the BEA, the bureau that investigates aviation safety in France. So he’s forced to go rogue, risking both career and life, but determined to uncover the sordid truth.”

A release date for Netflix’s Black Box remake has not yet been set. The original is currently available to stream on Kanopy and Tubi.
