Netflix is developing a new scripted sports drama series from a showrunner known for crafting some of television’s most addictive ensemble stories. The project promises to blend small-town intrigue with the high-stakes world of competitive athletics.
Glory Days in development at Netflix
Netflix is in early development on the scripted sports series Glory Days from writer and showrunner Josh Safran, Deadline reported exclusively. Skydance Sports is producing the project, with Safran set to executive produce alongside Nancy Cotton. Netflix declined to comment on the development.
Glory Days centres on the top college baseball players recruited to Cape Cod every summer. Specifically, the players try out for talent scouts from around the world for a shot at the majors. As a result, the series follows coaches, players, and local townspeople as their futures, families, secrets, and sex lives collide.
Notably, the project carries the description of The OC meets Bull Durham, blending sports drama with ensemble storytelling. Furthermore, Safran will serve as writer, showrunner, and executive producer if the project moves to series. Meanwhile, the Cape Cod summer baseball league setting provides the backdrop for the show’s intertwining storylines.
Importantly, Safran brings extensive television experience to the project across multiple networks and streamers. Previously, he created, executive produced, and showran ABC’s Quantico, Netflix’s Soundtrack, and HBO Max’s Gossip Girl reboot. Additionally, he served as executive producer and showrunner on NBC’s Smash and worked as a writer-producer on the original Gossip Girl series.
Apart from Glory Days, Safran is currently shooting the pilot for NBC’s U.S. Marshal drama Protection. The series stars Peter Krause as Mike Thornhill alongside Hope Davis, Tommy O’Brien, Kat Cunning, and Taylor Bloom. Essentially, Protection follows a family of law enforcement agents who become targets of a mysterious assassin after a U.S. Marshal falls in the line of duty.
