Adam Sandler recently took to social media to celebrate the success of his produced movie, Roommates, on Netflix. The movie has secured the top spot on Netflix’s charts, with viewership soaring. Sandler shared behind-the-scenes footage along with a very short caption to share this wonderful news with fans.
Adam Sandler celebrates Roommates Netflix success
Sandler shared a video on X (formerly Twitter) to announce that Roommates is currently #1 on Netflix. He captioned it, “Yupppp.” Last week, the comedy movie ranked third, below Thrash and 180, which were leading the global table. At the time, its viewership was 88,00,000 with 1,57,00,000 hours watched, according to Netflix. Since its release, it has received mixed reviews from fans and critics alike. Its Rotten Tomatoes rating is also 70%.
Directed by Chandler Levack, the comedy movie centers on Devon, a naive and excited freshman, who wants to make friends and start her college journey on a good note after high school proved not so good for her. She meets a cool, confident Celeste, and they instantly click. She asks her to be her roommate. What starts as a good friendship eventually turns into a heated battle when their bond is tested.
Levak was trusted to helm the movie after Sandler watched her 2022 directorial debut, “I Like Movies,” and immediately called her agents. She was sent the script, and Sandler reached out to her, eventually taking her on board.
“He truly believed in me. I don’t know how you look at “I Like Movies,” a film that literally doesn’t even have lights, and think that person is capable of directing a $30 million feature,” Levak said in an interview with Variety.
Jimmy Fowlie and Ceara O’Sullivan penned the script for the story. The cast includes Sadie Sandler, Chloe East, Sarah Sherman, Natasha Lyonne, Nick Kroll, Storm Reid, Billy Bryk, Ivy Wolk, Aidan Langford, Bella Murphy, Jaya Harper, and Janeane Garofalo, among others.
