An acclaimed creator has confirmed his involvement in Lanterns Season 2. Recent rumors hinted at his collaboration with DC Studios‘ upcoming show and now it’s official.
Christopher Cantwell confirms Lanterns Season 2 involvement
Christopher Cantwell confirmed on his Bluesky account that he’s working on Lanterns Season 2. He accidentally leaked the update while sharing an image of a green ring. With that, he wrote, “Yes, I’m joining LANTERNS Season 2.”
A day later, Cantwell then made it evident while teasing what’s to come with a picture related to the show. He wrote, “Listen since it got leaked yesterday months and months before the announcement, I’m just gonna start periodically posting stuff like this. No clues. Just excitement.”
Cantwell is a prominent name in TV shows, best known as a co-creator of AMC’s hit series Halt and Catch Fire. While a recent rumor suggested he may join Lanterns Season 2 as a writer and executive producer, Cantwell didn’t reveal any specifics about his role.
Apart from Halt and Catch Fire, Cantwell has also worked on Paper Girls, The Terror, and Lodge 49. What makes his resume a natural fit for DC Studios’ upcoming TV series is his connection with superheroes. Cantwell has penned multiple stories, including iconic characters like Batman, Superman, Moon Knight, Thanos, Iron Man, and The Mask, among others.

Lanterns Season 1 arrives this summer with a main cast that includes Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, Kelly Macdonald, Nathan Fillion, Ulrich Thomsen, Garret Dillahunt, and Poorna Jagannathan. Nicole Ari Parker, Chris Coy, Jason Ritter, Sherman Augustus, Cary Christopher, Paul-Ben Victor, Paula Patton, and Laura Linney are also playing key roles.
As for the plot, the series follows John Stewart and Hal Jordan. According to the official synopsis, “These two intergalactic cops are drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.”
Lanterns Season 1 is set to hit HBO and HBO Max on August 16, 2026.
