Acclaimed filmmaker Christopher Nolan has shared his opinion about fellow Oscar winner Quentin Tarantino‘s famous ten-movie rule. This comes ahead of Nolan’s next epic action movie, The Odyssey, which premieres next week on July 17.
What did Christopher Nolan say about Quentin Tarantino’s ten-movie rule?
It has already been over a decade since Tarantino famously shared his plans of retiring from filmmaking after directing his tenth feature, and this remains a frequent conversation topic among movie fans. During a recent interview with The Telegraph, Nolan had the chance to chime in on the subject. The Oppenheimer director revealed that he disagrees with Tarantino’s ten-movie rule and hopes that the Pulp Fiction director would eventually reconsider not quitting making films after his tenth feature.
“I think it’s dangerous to look at it that specifically,” Nolan admitted. “I mean, Quentin has his reasons, and I respect those enormously. But I’m hoping that he won’t stay true to them.”
Following the critical success of his ninth movie, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Tarantino is still looking for the right project for his supposed final directorial feature. It was originally going to be a 1970s period movie with Brad Pitt, titled The Movie Critic, which was first announced in 2023. However, he ultimately decided to cancel the project despite already securing a $20 million tax credit in California. According to Tarantino, his reason for scrapping the film was that he didn’t really feel any excitement during its pre-production, even though he loved the script.
