Zack Snyder recently teased that a familiar DCEU actor is actively lobbying to join his upcoming reboot of Escape from New York. Speaking on a recent episode of the Happy Sad Confused podcast with host Josh Horowitz, the director hinted that he may have already found the actor to take over Kurt Russell’s iconic role.

When Horowitz asked Snyder if he found his Snake Plissken, the director replied, “I may.” Horowitz then followed up by asking, “Someone you have worked with before?” Snyder declined to comment.

However, Horowitz brought up a past chat with Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who revealed he had been staying in touch with Snyder about taking on Snake Plissken or joining another one of his projects. Snyder confirmed the actor’s enthusiasm, adding, “He literally has been hitting me up recently. He’s the best; I love him. Jeffrey’s great. He’s so strong.”

Morgan had a DCEU cameo in Snyder’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice. In the 2016 movie, the 60-year-old actor played Thomas Wayne, Batman’s father, in the opening sequence. He has also been part of other DC projects, such as The Comedian in Watchmen, Franklin Clay in The Losers, and Jeb Turnbull in Jonah Hex.

What do we know about Snyder’s Escape From New York remake?

Zack Snyder is set to write and direct the 1981 sci-fi movie Escape from New York. The movie was originally directed by John Carpenter and starred Kurt Russell as Snake Plissken.

During this interview, the director revealed that the movie will be set in 1997, but the war between the United States police force and criminal elements will take place in 1981, an homage to the release year of the original film.

Snyder continued, “And the rest is pretty much Escape from New York. It’s the perfect combination of kitsch and camp. But it’s also satire. And we can comment on government overreach; it’s all over the headlines. It’s current, in some ways.”

While the thematic framework and settings are taking shape, official details regarding the rest of the cast and crew remain under wraps.
