Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey shows no signs of slowing down. The movie continues its dominance at the global box office after a massive opening weekend. Its latest estimated numbers are creating new records in 2026 and Nolan’s career.

How The Odyssey is rewriting Christopher Nolan’s box office history

The Odyssey is pulling in double-digit millions at the box office each day, while making yet another impressive performance on Thursday. According to Box office estimates, the movie brought in $17.5 million in its second week of release. While that marked a slight 2% dip from Wednesday ($18 million), it was still enough to make it the biggest Thursday of 2026 so far. It surpassed Toy Story 5, which previously held the record with $12.6 million.

THE ODYSSEY is estimated to earn $17.5M on Thursday, the biggest Thursday of 2026, ahead of TOY STORY 5’s $12.6M.

The milestone is notably significant for Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan. It marks the biggest Thursday of his career, outdoing his previous releases. Interestingly, the movie also holds the record for the biggest Thursday night opening with its preview screenings. Earlier this week, The Odyssey also set another personal record for Nolan. It earned $21.4 million on Tuesday, beating The Dark Knight’s longstanding Tuesday record of $20.9 million from 2008.

The strong weekday performances are building the momentum for another big weekend for The Odyssey. It’s projected to make between $61 and $74 million in its second week domestically. If it reaches a higher number, it could beat The Dark Knight‘s second weekend collection of $75.1 million, which also remains the biggest in his career.

The Odyssey received a strong positive reception from critics and audiences alike. At the time of writing, the movie holds a 94% critics score and a 97% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

With a $250 million budget, The Odyssey is one of the most expensive films in Nolan’s career, and also one of the most expensive films ever made.
