Brad Pitt and David Fincher‘s upcoming movie has received a concerning update. The movie is a sequel to Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood, based on Pitt’s character Cliff Booth. However, the latest update suggests fans may have to wait longer for its premiere.
What is the release date update for Brad Pitt and David Fincher’s Cliff Booth movie?
On Thursday, artistic director Alberto Barbera unveiled the lineup for this year’s Venice International Film Festival. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the director addressed the lineup, along with other topics.
One question concerned the absence of major studio films from the lineup. In response, Barbera said the anticipated movies didn’t make the lineup for various reasons, including David Fincher’s The Adventures of Cliff Booth, starring Brad Pitt.
He stated, “David Fincher’s film, which is highly anticipated, for us too, isn’t ready because Fincher had to pause for personal reasons. It has been slightly postponed and will be probably ready in October, but not in time for Venice.”
Previously, it was reported that the director was not looking for a theatrical release, and the movie was set to release on Netflix. However, a limited theatrical release had been planned for November 25, 2026, but since production has been paused, this date is expected to be rescheduled.
Talks about the sequel began in 2021, when Quentin Tarantino stated that he wanted to do a feature on the character. However, in 2025, Fincher was hired to helm the movie based on Tarantino’s scripts. Leonardo DiCaprio will not appear in the movie after reportedly turning down the role.
The reasons for the pause in production have not yet been disclosed. However, this movie would not be the first time Fincher and Pitt would work together. Previously, they worked together on Se7en, Fight Club, and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
As stated above, the new movie will serve as a sequel to the Tarantino movie, which featured a fading actor and his stuntman as they navigated the changing world of Hollywood while exploring the Charles Manson murders and the Tate killings. The Adventures of Cliff Booth will premiere on Netflix on December 23, 2026.
