New Pokémon Series Gets First Official Look With Pichu & More — Photo Credit: TV Tokyo

Pokémon fans can look forward to a new show with its iconic creatures coming to Disney+ soon. Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu is a new show created by animation studio Aardman. The upcoming animated series will debut on Disney XD, followed by streaming on Disney+ in 2027, almost three years after it was announced.

The new Pokémon series is a result of a new global distribution deal signed by Disney+ and The Pokémon Company. The stop-motion series will follow Sirfetch’d and Pichu on a journey through the Galar Region. Its synopsis suggests the duo will work together to protect Pokémon across the region. “Their missions rarely go as planned, but their noble deeds forge their friendship as they step bravely into the unknown where peril, alliances, rivalries, extraordinary Pokémon, and endless laughs await them,” it reads.

What do we see in the trailer for Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu?

The short trailer shows clay versions of Pichu and Sirfetch’d walking up a hill and overlooking the Galar Region. Footage then shows the duo in a variety of adventures, including battling many other Pokémon, such as main antagonist Escavalier. Sirfetch’d is then shown walking into a sign that has the word “2027” written on it, teasing the show’s arrival.

“Pokémon has that rare ability to mean something to longtime fans while continuing to feel completely relevant to young audiences today,” said Ayo Davis, president, Disney Kids & Family. “This new series Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu brings Aardman’s signature stop-motion artistry with a bold, playful new perspective to this beloved world, giving audiences a fresh way to experience the characters they know and love. Along with Pokémon the Series: The Beginning, these series are powerful additions to Disney XD and Disney+.”

Tom Parkinson is directing the series, joined by James Young, Model Making Creative Lead at Aardman.
