A new movie starring Dakota Fanning and Jake Johnson is now available to watch in select theaters in the United States. The movie, titled The Sun Never Sets, will get an expanded release in the weeks to come.
The Sun Never Sets is a new drama movie that is written, directed, produced, and edited by Joe Swanberg. Swanberg has made a number of popular indie movies throughout his career, having made his feature film directorial debut in 2005 with Kissing on the Mouth. Some of his other titles include 2013’s Drinking Buddies, 2014’s Happy Christmas, and 2015’s Digging for Fire; he also co-wrote the screenplay to 2020’s The Rental, which was directed by Dave Franco, and co-directed 2008’s Nights and Weekends with Greta Gerwig, among other titles.
His latest stars Cory Michael Smith, Debby Ryan, Anna Konkle, and Lamorne Morris in addition to Johnson and Fanning. The movie is debuting at the Music Box in Chicago and will have some special screenings at the IFC Center in New York City before it expands to more locations next Friday.
What is Dakota Fanning’s The Sun Never Sets movie about?
The plot synopsis for The Sun Never Sets reads, “Free-spirited Wendy (Dakota Fanning) is at a crossroads in her relationship with older divorced dad Jack (Jake Johnson, New Girl) that is only further complicated when an old flame (Cory Michael Smith, Sentimental Value) re-enters her life. Set in perpetually sunny summertime Anchorage and featuring a career-best performance by Fanning, The Sun Never Sets is a funny and endearing return to form for mumblecore auteur Joe Swanberg.”
This marks the first time that Fanning and Johnson have starred in a movie together. Johnson has, however, collaborated with Swanberg before, as Johnson starred in Drinking Buddies, Digging for Fire, and 2017’s Win It All.
