Harold & Kumar fans received an exciting update from John Cho. The actor recently starred alongside Mahershala Ali in Your Mother, Your Mother, Your Mother. While promoting his latest movie, Cho was asked about the fourth installment of his 2004 hit stoner comedy.

In an interview with Variety, the Star Trek actor was asked about an update on Harold & Kumar 4. The actor said, “That would be fun and I can confirm that it is allegedly gestating with me and Kal Penn. We’re older, and if we do this, I think it would be really interesting because I can’t believe how many fundamental things have changed in the time we’ve done these movies!”

“The headliner is that weed is legal. The movies talk about cultural politics and national politics, and everything there has also changed, so I think it would be interesting to see what this movie would be,” he continued.

What else do we know about Harold & Kumar 4 so far?

Earlier in July, the franchise’s producer, Greg Shapiro, provided another update on the fourth installment. At the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, Shapiro revealed that the screenplay for the fourth movie is currently being written.

“Everybody’s back, the actors, the writers… the writers are directing, and hopefully we should be shooting it soon, you know, they’re just … it’s like any movie, it all has to come together in the right way,” the producer added.

The producer’s comments followed a previous report stating that writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg were set to direct the fourth movie and co-write the screenplay with Josh Heald.

Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle was released on July 30, 2004, and currently holds a 75% Tomatometer score and an 80% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes. The sequel, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, was released on April 25, 2008.

The third installment, A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, is set six years after the events of the sequel and was released on November 4, 2011. As of now, no release date has been announced for Harold & Kumar 4.
