HBO Max has greenlit the People v. Gorilla Grodd series. Beck Bennett, Mikaela Hoover, and Wendell Pierce are returning as Daily Planet staffers Steve Lombard, Cat Grant, and Perry White, respectively. They join the previously announced cast of Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen and Jimmy Tatro as Gorilla Grodd.

The new series will expand on the world established in James Gunn’s first Superman film in the DCU. The recent additions of Daily Planet staff indicate that it could have a larger part in the upcoming story.

Steve Lombard is a reporter, Cat Grant is a columnist, and Perry White is the editor-in-chief for the Planet. The trio work in the same famous newsroom which publishes definitive pieces on the Man of Steel. However, one notable member of the paper’s staff is missing from the newly announced returning cast.

What question is the Superman cast raising among fans?

The returning cast of the paper’s staff has fans questioning the absence of Christopher McDonald, who played Ron Troupe in Superman. McDonald’s Troupe was a key part of the Daily Planet team, making his exclusion noticeable among the returning cast.

Fans have started to speculate that McDonald may not be part of the show, at least for now. However, his absence does not rule out the possibility that DC could announce his involvement later.

While McDonald’s return to the show remains unconfirmed, the core cast additions prove a strong link between Superman and its Gorilla Grodd spin-off. According to James Gunn, he and Peter Safran has pitched to Warner Bros. along with the newly released Lanterns.

The creators of American Vandal, Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda are helming the show. People v. Gorilla Grodd will arrive on HBO Max with eight half-hour episodes.
