Peacock has a new drama that is winning over viewers. The streaming service has released many original shows, but The Five-Star Weekend stood out among them. The TV show’s impressive start has now turned into the platform’s major success.

Peacock new drama series becomes a major streaming success

The Five-Star Weekend is based on Elin Hilderbrand’s bestselling novel of the same name. Led by Jennifer Garner, it became Peacock’s biggest scripted series ever in overall reach. Peacock’s first-party data indicated that the series recorded more than 1 billion viewing minutes in its first week on streaming platforms.

The story shows a successful food influencer and bestselling author, Hollis Shaw, played by Garner, whose life changes after a heartbreaking personal loss. She invites three friends from different stages of her life to spend a weekend together with the hope of healing. The reunion becomes more complicated when a surprise guest arrives, bringing old memories and unresolved emotions to the surface.

Universal Global Television, a division of Universal Studios Group, produced the Five-Star Weekend. The series includes eight episodes, and each runs around 45 to 60 minutes.

The cast also includes D’Arcy Carden, Gemma Chan, Regina Hall, Chloe Sevigny, Harlow Jane, and Timothy Olyphant. Bekah Brunstetter serves as showrunner. She hopes the series will continue, though Hilderbrand never wrote a sequel to the novel.

Speaking to TheWrap, Brunstetter said, “They could go on vacations forever.” She suggested future seasons could feature new destinations and “a new fifth star.”

The drama also performed well outside Peacock’s own data. It ranked among Nielsen’s top five original streaming series for the week of July 6, though the research company has not yet released its official viewing totals. It also became the week’s most-social streaming premiere, generating more than 13 million video views.
