Hulu expands its movie library with the addition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ popular crime thriller, starring Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio. As of today, director Martin Scorsese‘s 2006 film The Departed is now officially available to stream on Hulu.
What do we know about Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio’s The Departed movie?
The Departed was directed by Scorsese from a screenplay written by William Monahan. It served as an English remake of 2002’s award-winning Hong Kong-set film Internal Affairs, which starred Tony Leung. The ensemble cast included Jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Ray Winstone, Vera Farmiga, James Badge Dale, Alec Baldwin, and more. During its theatrical run in 2006, the film was both a critical and commercial success, grossing over $291 million worldwide. It also currently holds an approval rating of 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 285 reviews.
“South Boston cop Billy Costigan goes undercover to infiltrate the organization of gangland chief Frank Costello. As Billy gains the mobster’s trust, a career criminal named Colin Sullivan infiltrates the police department and reports on its activities to his syndicate bosses. When both organizations learn they have a mole in their midst, Billy and Colin must figure out each other’s identities to save their own lives,” reads the movie’s official synopsis.
The Departed was produced by Brad Grey, Graham King, and Brad Pitt, with G. Mac Brown, Doug Davison, Kristin Hahn, Roy Lee, and Gianni Nunnari executive producing. The creative team also included director of photography Michael Ballhaus, editor Thelma Schoonmaker, and composer Howard Shore. The movie won four major Oscar awards, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, and Best Film Editing.
