Paramount is bringing the G.I. Joe franchise back to theaters. The post Danny McBride & Bradley Cooper’s G.I. Joe Movie Sets Release Date appeared first on ComingSoon.net - Movie Trailers, TV & Streaming News, and More.

Paramount is bringing the G.I. Joe franchise back to theaters with a new live-action movie. The upcoming project will feature Bradley Cooper in a leading role, with Danny McBride directing. The film will introduce a fresh take on the long-running Hasbro property, which has struggled to maintain its theatrical success despite its popularity across toys, comics, and animated shows.
The studio has announced that the untitled movie will hit theaters on October 20, 2028. Cooper will portray Duke, a popular member of the G.I. Joe team. McBride is directing and co-writing the screenplay alongside Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, and Zev Foreman are producing the project.
The upcoming installment will offer a fresh take on the franchise instead of continuing the previously discussed G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover. Although the studio has not disclosed the official plot, McBride reportedly revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that it will be centered on Duke and other members of the team. They will be investigating Springfield, a town secretly controlled by Cobra. Further details about the story and additional cast members remain under wraps.
G.I. Joe has struggled to find success on the big screen despite its longtime popularity
The franchise’s history in theaters began with G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra in 2009. Directed by Stephen Sommers, the film starred Channing Tatum as Duke and earned approximately $302 million worldwide. Following its release, Paramount brought G.I. Joe: Retaliation to theaters in 2013, which introduced Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock. The sequel collected over $375 million worldwide.
Despite the improvement, the franchise struggled to maintain its box-office momentum. Paramount released Snake Eyes in 2021, with Henry Golding playing the titular character. The standalone origin story explored the character’s beginnings but failed to attract a large theatrical audience. It earned approximately $40 million worldwide.
Paramount is now giving the property another chance to find its audience. With Cooper taking on the role of Duke and McBride directing, the upcoming film will bring a different creative approach to the franchise.
