Zoe Saldaña almost passed on one of the biggest TV roles of her career. The Oscar-winning actress has revealed that she turned down Taylor Sheridan‘s Lioness for an entire year, even after he offered to write the lead role specifically for her.
Speaking on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Saldaña revealed that such an opportunity from Taylor Sheridan felt like an honor, but it also came with a great deal of pressure. She also revealed that Sheridan personally told her he would write the role specifically for her if she agreed to take it. Even then, she couldn’t bring herself to say yes out of fear.
“For a year after he told me that he would write this around me… I, for a year, I said no, ’cause I just didn’t believe in me,” she admitted. “I kept saying this: If Taylor Sheridan believes in you, someone like Taylor believes in you, then you have no choice but to believe in yourself.”
Saldaña also praised Sheridan’s writing, explaining that his richly written characters are the reason so many stars want to work with him.
