Samara Weaving is now officially a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She has been reportedly cast as a major mutant superhero.

According to reports from Deadline, Weaving has been selected to portray the role of Emma Frost in Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot. Director Jake Schreier and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige reportedly landed on the 34-year-old actor following an extensive audition process, though Marvel Studios has not yet issued an official confirmation.

Disney acquired the rights to all the X-Men properties from 20th Century Fox back in 2019. However, despite seven years having passed, Marvel Studios has yet to announce a standalone X-Men movie for the MCU. Thankfully, Weaving’s casting hints towards the fact that Feige and his team might be planning to fast-track the long-awaited project.

Samara Weaving’s MCU casting could be her biggest franchise yet

This could be one of the biggest roles Weaving has landed in her career. While she is a popular name in the entertainment industry, the Australian model and actor has never worked for such a big profile. Her character too is pretty significant according to the comic books.

In Marvel lore, Frost is a formidable mutant who possesses telepathic powers. While initially the character was a supervillain, she later went on to join the X-Men team.

The 34-year-old is coming off a strong year at the box office. Her performance in Ready or Not 2: Here I Come was widely praised by critics and fans alike. Reprising her role of Grace MacCaullay from 2019’s Ready or Not, the Weaving-led movie earned a 90% rating from the audience.

Following its digital release on May 5, the movie took the number 1 spot on Hulu, coupled with some impressive global rankings on Disney +.

Currently, there are no confirmed dates or announcements from Marvel about a potential X-Men standalone movie. However, reports indicate that full-scale casting for the mutant team is officially underway.
