Christina Applegate recently broke down in tears as she shared the heartbreaking news of her father’s passing during an episode of her podcast, MeSsy. Speaking with co-host Jamie-Lynn Sigler and guest JoAnna Garcia Swisher, the actress revealed that her father, Robert Applegate, had died just a week earlier.

Christina Applegate recently opened up about the loss of her father, Robert Applegate, in an emotional episode of her podcast, MeSsy, which she co-hosts with Jamie-Lynn Sigler.
During the April 29 episode, recorded with guest JoAnna Garcia Swisher, Applegate revealed that her father had passed away just a week earlier. When Swisher talked about the death of her parents, it prompted Applegate to share her own experience. She became visibly emotional while speaking about it.
Applegate said, “This is the first time I’ve really cried. I think kind of, like, I wasn’t allowing myself to have that yet. Too busy with this, too busy with that.” She admitted that although her family had been aware her father’s death was near, the reality of his passing still hit hard. She further added, “Is that an excuse for not feeling? Because you know that someone’s gonna go? And you’ve said your goodbyes?”
Before the episode, Sigler had expressed concern that the conversation might be too painful for Applegate, but she assured her co-host she could handle it. Still, she admitted feeling “insanely sad.”
The actress shared that she didn’t grow up with her father, as her parents had separated when she was only five months old. However, he remained a part of her life through the years. Applegate also noted that while he wasn’t deeply involved in raising her, she gained two siblings and a stepmother through him.
Applegate and her father once appeared together on the genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are? in 2013.
