Police say the chopper crashed around 9.30am just off Tumbar Road, not far outside the small outback town.
The 42-year-old male pilot, who was the sole occupant of the helicopter, was declared dead at the scene.

The cause of the crash is not yet known but will be investigated by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau with assistance from police.
Workplace Health and Safety have been advised.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
