Sacramento's festival scene has operated in the shadow of coastal giants for years, until Breakaway decided shadows make excellent places to plant flags.
Breakaway is crashing into Northern California for its first-ever festival in the region, bringing heavyweight headliners Martin Garrix and Tiësto alongside Elderbrook and Louis The Child.
Scheduled for October 11-12 at Sacramento's Cal Expo Center, this isn't just another festival throwing its hat into California's oversaturated ring. It's the latest expansion from the nation's fastest-growing independent festival brand, which is spreading across the country like In-N-Out's inevitable march eastward.
After conquering markets from Dallas to Atlanta, Breakaway is planting its flag in NorCal's fertile festival grounds, marking their sixth new market this year and bringing their total to 12 festivals. And the location is a prudent move. While Insomniac owns the City of Angels with its plethora of festival properties and Portola locks horns with Outside Lands in the Bay, Sacramento sits in that sweet spot where EDM fans have been clamoring for a large-scale festival without having to roadtrip it.
That's exactly what they're getting with the inaugural Breakaway NorCal, which will also feature performances by Daily Bread, Malaa (Alter Ego), Opiuo, Rusko, Austin Mill and CHYL, among other artists both international and local. Breakaway's formula of mixing marquee DJs with emerging talent has proven as reliable as LA traffic jams, turning every stop into a launching pad for both established headliners and breakthrough artists ready to claim their spotlight.
