Yellowjackets is bringing another veteran performer into the wilderness for its final chapter. As the series prepares to close out its story, a 96-year-old Oscar nominee has joined the cast for Yellowjackets Season 4, adding a new presence to the Showtime drama’s last installment.
June Squibb added to cast of Yellowjackets Season 4
June Squibb has been added to the cast of Showtime’s Yellowjackets for its fourth and final season. Details about her character have not been disclosed. Molly Ringwald will also appear in the final season, with Deadline reporting she will play Van’s mom, a recovering alcoholic seeking to make amends.
Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson created and executive produce Yellowjackets. The series follows a high school girls soccer team that survives a plane crash in the remote northern wilderness. It tracks their fight to stay alive and revisits their lives nearly 25 years later as they confront the lasting effects of their past.
The cast features Sophie Nélisse, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Samantha Hanratty, Sophie Thatcher and Courtney Eaton. Nia Sondaya, who plays Teen Akilah, recently became a series regular. Lionsgate Television and Creative Engine produce the drama, and Paramount Global Content Distribution handles distribution.
Season three executive producers include Lyle, Nickerson and Jonathan Lisco. Drew Comins executive produced for Creative Engine alongside Jeff W. Byrd, Sarah L. Thompson, Ameni Rozsa and Brad Van Arragon. Lyle told the Los Angeles Times, “These girls have changed remarkably, for better or for worse, in their time out there, especially because of their age. They’re so malleable to begin with, and they’ve become very different people.”
Squibb most recently appeared in Eleanor the Great, Thelma, Lost and Found in Cleveland and Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead. She earned SAG Award, Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for playing Kate Grant in Nebraska.
Her film credits also include About Schmidt, Inside Out 2, The Humans, Palm Springs and Toy Story 4. On television, she has appeared in Little America, Shameless and The Big Bang Theory.
