A sports comedy movie headlined by Will Ferrell is leaving Netflix soon, giving subscribers a limited time to stream it online. The underrated film, co-starring the late Robert Duvall and focusing on a complicated father-son dynamic, was a moderate box office success at the time of its release and garnered mixed reviews from critics and audiences.
Kicking & Screaming leaves Netflix in April
Kicking & Screaming, starring Will Ferrell and Robert Duvall, will reportedly depart Netflix on April 1, 2026. Accordingly, subscribers have two weeks to stream the film before it is no longer available on the platform.
The movie first premiered at Universal City on May 1, 2005, before its wider theatrical release roughly two weeks later on May 13. It grossed $56.1 million at the global box office against its $45 million budget.
On Rotten Tomatoes, it has performed rather poorly, displaying a rotten 41% critical score and a slightly better, although incredibly mediocre audience score of 44%. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, the movie has a “mixed or average” Metascore of 45, but a solid user score of 6.1, denoting “generally favorable” reception.
The story follows Phil Weston (Ferrell), who has suffered under his father, Buck’s (Duvall), overcompetitive nature since childhood. The former eventually becomes the coach of the Tigers, a soccer team that is not only a rival of Buck’s team, the Gladiators, but also the worst league in comparison to the latter’s reputation as the most successful little league soccer team. Consequently, the father and son start having their respective teams try to outperform one another in an effort to prove who is better.
Jesse Dylan, known for helming American Wedding and How High, directed the movie, while Jimmy Miller produced it. Meanwhile, the writing team of Leo Benvenuti and Steve Rudnick worked on the screenplay. The latter two’s credits include Michael Jordan’s 1996 film Space Jam and Tim Allen’s Christmas fantasy comedy, The Santa Clause.
In addition to Ferrell and Duvall, Kicking & Screaming stars Kate Walsh, Mike Ditka, Josh Hutcherson, Dylan McLaughlin, Musetta Vander, Steven Anthony Lawrence, and Rachael Harris, among others.
