With no new Abbott Elementary episodes in the last two weeks, fans have grown curious about the reason behind the decision. Since the premiere of Season 5 in early October, there have been only six episodes, leaving fans to wonder what happened to the show.
Here are the details on the show’s status.
Why Abbott Elementary didn’t air a new episode this week
Abbott Elementary Season 5 premiered on October 1, 2025, on ABC with new episodes releasing every week. However, the show has been largely absent throughout November, having aired only one episode on November 5. Since then, fans have been wondering why the series suddenly went off the air.
Currently, Abbott Elementary Season 5 is on a scheduled break and will air two more episodes before going on a winter break in mid-December. ABC has kept the details about these breaks under wraps, with no official word about its future scheduling.
However, according to the IMDB page, Abbott Elementary Season 5 Episode 7, “Goofgirl,” will air on December 3, 2025. Subsequently, Episode 8, ”Birthday,” will air on December 10, 2025, which will also serve as the winter break finale. And after the holidays, the show is reportedly to resume on January 7, 2026. Details about those episodes have not been released yet.
Nonetheless, fans who’ve missed out on the previous episodes can watch them on Hulu. And those who need a recap of what happened in the last episode, below is the brief. So, read ahead with caution.
In Episode 6, “No Phones,” Abbott Elementary faces a new challenge when the district announces “No Phones Day” competition. It forces everyone, including kids and staff, to surrender their phones for the entire day. While students adapt to the situation by engaging in creative activities, teachers are finding it hard to make it through.
Janine worries about paying her rent on time, while Jacob is struggling to access the news. Meanwhile, Gregory awaits information on his car repairs, and Barbara wants to send a birthday message. On the other hand, Melissa needs to check her medical results. After all the struggles, Abbott Elementary stands as the only school that went without phones the longest. And as a result, the district fulfilled its promise of a pizza party.
