Leonardo DiCaprio skipped the 2026 Actor Awards, formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild Awards, an event widely seen as a strong predictor for the Oscars. He was nominated in the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role category for One Battle After Another. However, it appears that he sat this event out due to a professional commitment.
Here’s why Leonardo DiCaprio wasn’t at the 2026 Actor Awards
According to PEOPLE, DiCaprio didn’t attend the 2026 Actor Awards as he’s currently shooting Martin Scorsese’s upcoming movie, What Happens at Night.
DiCaprio was nominated for the male actor in the leading role category for One Battle After Another, where he played Bob Ferguson. His character is a washed-up former member of a revolutionary group named French 75. He also served as the group’s explosive device expert. The movie has received 13 nominations for the Academy Awards, which will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles on March 15, 2026.
What Happens at Night will mark the seventh collaboration between Martin Scorsese and Leonardo DiCaprio. Their most recent project together was Killers of the Flower Moon, which received 10 Oscar nominations but did not win any awards. The upcoming gothic psychological horror movie is adapted from Peter Cameron’s novel of the same name. It follows the story of a couple who embark on their journey to a small, snowy European town in hopes of adopting a baby. Amid their quest, they halt at an eerie hotel, where they experience weird happenings and odd characters. Soon, their desire to adopt the baby becomes difficult as their minds begin to question reality.
Apart from DiCaprio, the movie stars Jennifer Lawrence, Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson, and Jared Harris. In late February 2026, its principal photography began in the Czech Republic. At the time of writing, the release date for Scorsese’s upcoming movie hasn’t been disclosed.
