The latest batch of Werwulf set photos has surfaced online, providing an idea of what to expect from Aaron Taylor-Johnson‘s character. Robert Eggers‘ newest period horror drama will arrive in theaters on December 25, 2026.
What do the Werwulf set photos show?
Shared on X, the behind-the-scenes photos from the UK set of the highly anticipated Werwulf movie feature Taylor-Johnson sporting long hair and a messy beard. He can be seen filming a scene with blood all over his upper body, teasing his character’s terrifying transformation. This marks the Bullet Train actor’s latest collaboration with Eggers, after working together in 2024’s Nosferatu.
The movie is being directed by Eggers, who co-wrote the screenplay with Sjón. The story will take place in 13th-century England. Johnson will reportedly be joined by Eggers’ frequent collaborators Lily-Rose Depp, Willem Dafoe, and Ralph Ineson. Further details about its plot and characters are still under wraps. It is produced by Tim Bevan, Garett Bird, Eggers, Eric Fellner, and Sjón. Executive producers are Chris Columbus and Eleanor Columbus, with Jarin Blaschke serving as its cinematographer.
According to a Q&A Eggers took part in at the Lincoln Center, the director described his upcoming Werwulf movie as the “darkest thing” he’s ever written. The filmmaker is best known for his directorial works on movies like 2015’s The Witch, 2019’s The Lighthouse, 2022’s The Northman, and 2024’s Nosferatu, which have all received Certified Fresh scores on Rotten Tomatoes. Besides Werwulf, Eggers is also currently attached to helm a Labyrinth sequel.
