Untamed Season 2 has added a Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning star in a key role, with Shea Whigham boarding the Netflix crime series as the first actor announced for season 2 of the Netflix crime thriller series.
Who is Shea Whigham playing in Untamed Season 2?
Deadline reports that Whigham will play Ray Burkart, who relocated from California to Hawaii’s Big Island three decades ago and operates several ventures, albeit some are far more legitimate than others. Burkart comes into conflict with the lead character Kyle Turner (played by Eric Bana) after the death of his son, with both going on a search for the killer.
Whigham’s casting comes after news about Untamed Season 2, including plot details and a change in the location. The upcoming episodes will see Bana’s character called upon to investigate a mysterious death in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park. He’ll have to deal with local tensions, as well as a volatile and unpredictable landscape that ultimately impacts the case.
As the summary suggests, the crime series will be moving from Yosemite National Park to the Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park. Although the first season starred Sam Neill, Rosemarie DeWitt, Lily Santiago, and Wilson Bethel, the main conflict was largely resolved by the Untamed ending.
Whigham, who played Jasper Briggs in the Mission: Impossible film franchise, is a two-time Critics’ Choice Award nominee. He’s also appeared in films such as Silver Linings Playbook, The Wolf of Wall Street, and Joker. On the small screen, meanwhile, Whigham is an HBO mainstay and is well-known for his role as Elias “Eli” Thompson in Boardwalk Empire. He’s likewise had pivotal roles in True Detective Season 1 and HBO’s recent Perry Mason reboot.
Untamed hails from Warner Bros. Television and co-showrunners Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith. They also executive produce alongside Bana, John Wells, and Erin Jontow via John Wells Productions, Todd Black and Tony Shaw for Escape Artists Entertainment, Steve Lee Jones for Bee Holder Productions, and Cliff Roberts for Syndicate Entertainment.
