Netflix is set to remove one of Jackie Chan’s underrated action thrillers from its library. This gives viewers a limited window to catch The Foreigner before it exits the platform. The 2017 film pairs Chan with former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan in a politically tense story.
January is the last month to watch Jackie Chan’s The Foreigner
Netflix subscribers have limited time left to stream The Foreigner, as Jackie Chan’s action thriller will soon be removed from the platform. The movie is scheduled to leave the platform after February 1, 2026, making January the final month of availability.
Directed by Martin Campbell and written by David Marconi, the film is based on Stephen Leather’s 1992 novel The Chinaman. Chan stars as Quan Ngoc Minh, a quiet London restaurant owner whose life is shattered when his teenage daughter, Fan, is killed in a terrorist bombing at a clothing store. When the attack is claimed by a group calling itself the Authentic IRA and authorities fail to identify those responsible, Quan takes matters into his own hands.
His search for answers leads him into a tense confrontation with Liam Hennessy. The latter is Northern Ireland’s deputy First Minister, portrayed by Pierce Brosnan. Hennessy publicly denounces the bombing while openly acknowledging his former ties to the IRA. This contradiction fuels Quan’s suspicions. The film follows the escalating tension between the two men. The supporting cast includes Orla Brady as Mary Hennessy and Dermot Crowley as Hugh McGrath.
Upon release, the film earned a 66 percent critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 125 reviews. We Are Movie Geeks reported, “[It] is a splendid, polished action thriller with brain and heart, and a marvelous pairing of two actors, Chan and Brosnan.”
Commercially, The Foreigner performed well, grossing $34 million in the United States and Canada and an additional $111 million overseas. According to Box Office Mojo, it earned worldwide total of approximately $145 million.
