A new report has shed some light on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem franchise, and what its future holds following the cancellation of its spin-off TV show.
What do we know about TMNT: Mutant Mayhem 2?
In a recent report on the state of Paramount from THR, the Mutant Mayhem franchise is brought up. Specifically, the cancellation of the spin-off series Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which ended after a second season was made.
THR’s report notes that the cancellation led to people believing that the Mutant Mayhem franchise as a whole was “in jeopardy.” However, THR notes, that isn’t the case, as Paramount heads remain “high” on the franchise and its still-in-development sequel. THR’s report also notes that a third movie is being discussed with Seth Rogen, who co-wrote and starred in the movie.
Originally released in 2023, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem was directed by Jeff Rowe. The film was a reboot of the Turtles film franchise, and was an animated film that followed the story of the turtles as look for acceptance in the world as teenagers. The movie starred Micah Abbey, Shamon Brown Jr., NIcolas Cantu, Brady Noon, Ayo Edebiri, Maya Rudolph, John Cena, Seth Rogen, Rose Byrn, Natasia Demetriou, Giancarlo Esposito, Jackie Chan, Ice Cube, and Paul Rudd.
The movie was a massive success, grossing more than $180 million and being praised for its unique animation style and take on the characters. A sequel on the film, which will likely focus on the inclusion of Shredder into the world, is slated to come out in 2027. A short film, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Chrome Alone 2 – Lost in New Jersey, is also set to release on December 19, 2025, and will be shown alongside The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants.
