Timothée Chalamet reportedly claimed in a recent interview that his performance in Marty Supreme was his “best” to date, adding that he feels he’s delivered a strong run of performances over the past several years. The film, which will come out in theaters this Christmas, is loosely based on the story of the late table tennis icon Marty Reisman.

In an interview reportedly posted on Margaret Gardiner’s YouTube channel, which has since been deleted but shared by Screenshot HQ on TikTok, Timothée Chalamet said his portrayal of Marty Mauser in Marty Supreme was “probably my best performance.”
“And then it’s been like seven, eight years that I feel like I’ve been handing in really, really committed, top-of-the-line performances,” he added. “It’s important to say out loud because the discipline and the work ethic I’m bringing to these things, I don’t want people to take for granted. I don’t want to take for granted. This is really some top-level s—,” Chalamet further stated.
Gardiner mentioned in the interview that George Clooney had described Chalamet as “a great actor.” The Dune star joked in response, saying he “needed a little more confidence.” (via People)
Marty Supreme, the upcoming sports comedy drama, is set against the backdrop of 1950s New York City and follows Mauser, a rising table tennis star and aspiring champion who works hard to achieve greatness. Josh Safdie directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ronald Bronstein.
The film boasts a 97% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes from 97 reviews. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, the movie has a metascore of 89, indicating “Universal Acclaim.”
Besides Chalamet, the movie also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler The Creator, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, and Emory Cohen, among others.
