Timothée Chalamet reportedly claimed in a recent interview that his performance in Marty Supreme was his “best” to date, adding that he feels he’s delivered a strong run of performances over the past several years. The film, which will come out in theaters this Christmas, is loosely based on the story of the late table tennis icon Marty Reisman.

Timothée Chalamet says he’s been handing in ‘top-of-the-line performances’ for years now

In an interview reportedly posted on Margaret Gardiner’s YouTube channel, which has since been deleted but shared by Screenshot HQ on TikTok, Timothée Chalamet said his portrayal of Marty Mauser in Marty Supreme was “probably my best performance.”

Timothée Chalamet just declared his performance in Marty Supreme to be “probably my best,” and the internet’s split between applauding the confidence and diagnosing a full-on method acting episode. In a new interview with Margaret Gardiner, Chalamet spoke about his role as Marty Mauser with huge conviction, calling it “top-level sh*t” and saying it represents years of intense work and discipline. Cue the online debate: Is this Timmy finally embracing a little well-earned ego, or are we witnessing a PR-fuelled meltdown disguised as artistic passion? Especially as his comments dropped just days after Kristen Stewart called out how men often turn to method acting to make performance feel more ‘masculine.’ With Marty Supreme already earning rave early reviews ahead of its Christmas Day release, maybe he’s just right, orrrr maybe we’re entering the hyper-self-aware actor promo era. Either way, the confidence is… supreme. #timothéechalamet #martysupreme #methodactor #methodacting #kristenstewart

“And then it’s been like seven, eight years that I feel like I’ve been handing in really, really committed, top-of-the-line performances,” he added. “It’s important to say out loud because the discipline and the work ethic I’m bringing to these things, I don’t want people to take for granted. I don’t want to take for granted. This is really some top-level s—,” Chalamet further stated.

Gardiner mentioned in the interview that George Clooney had described Chalamet as “a great actor.” The Dune star joked in response, saying he “needed a little more confidence.” (via People)

Marty Supreme, the upcoming sports comedy drama, is set against the backdrop of 1950s New York City and follows Mauser, a rising table tennis star and aspiring champion who works hard to achieve greatness. Josh Safdie directed the film from a screenplay he co-wrote with Ronald Bronstein.

The film boasts a 97% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes from 97 reviews. Meanwhile, on Metacritic, the movie has a metascore of 89, indicating “Universal Acclaim.”

Besides Chalamet, the movie also stars Gwyneth Paltrow, Odessa A’zion, Kevin O’Leary, Tyler The Creator, Abel Ferrara, Fran Drescher, and Emory Cohen, among others.
