Sydney Sweeney, in a recent interview, revealed that her favorite sports movie was the iconic Rocky franchise. During their conversation, the lead, Christy, and Ethan Hawke discussed various sports-related topics. Further, Hawke shared an interesting tidbit about boxing from his life.
Sydney Sweeney says she has ‘always loved the Rocky franchise’
Sydney Sweeney’s Christy, based on the life of the iconic boxer Christy Martin, did not work out at the box office. But it remained a topic of discussion among fans, especially after the 28-year-old’s transformation into a legendary boxer. This was also a big deviation for the actor, who is usually typecast in a very different kind of role.
Sweeney discussed Christy with Ethan Hawke, who also gave his perspective on playing real-life characters. The actor-writer recently appeared as Lorenz Hart in Richard Linklater’s Blue Moon. He also played the iconic Chet Baker in Born to Be Blue.
While talking about trying to learn trumpet for his Born to Be Blue role, the 55-year-old said to Sweeney, “It ultimately doesn’t really matter how good you are. It’s whether you believe. Do you have a favorite sports movie? (via Variety)”
The Euphoria star replied, “I’ve always loved the ‘Rocky’ franchise.” Hawke responded to this with a story of his own about Rocky. He said, “I saw ‘Rocky’ and I decided I wanted to be a boxer. I took boxing lessons. I got one fight — and I didn’t like boxing anymore. I got my ass kicked. I felt like I was a pretty good defensive boxer, but the guy was punching my hands so hard that I was hitting myself. I dropped it. I did not like losing.”
The Anyone But You actor proceeded to ask how long he had trained for this fight. Hawke said he trained for six months and lauded Sweeney for being better than him in the ring. “I got a concussion, though,” Sweeney responded to this.
Sydney Sweeney will soon appear in The Housemaid, where she stars alongside Amanda Seyfried.
