The Super Bowl trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie showcases Yoshi using his abilities in battle. A highlighted moment includes Yoshi eating Kamek, confirming the character’s iconic swallowing power as featured in the games. This scene occurs during a confrontation with Bowser Jr., who states, “The great battle of my life draws near!”

Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic direct the animated sequel, which Universal Pictures will release theatrically on April 1, 2026. Chris Pratt returns as Mario, with Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, Jack Black as Bowser, and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. Brie Larson joins the cast as Rosalina, protector of the Lumas.

The trailer confirms the movie’s setting beyond the Mushroom Kingdom, venturing into outer space. Mario and Luigi team up with Princess Peach and Toad as they meet Yoshi and explore gravity-shifting planetoids. The scale of the film emphasizes a cosmic setting described as “shimmering nebulae and crystalline star-paths.”

Rosalina’s role marks a shift in the narrative, guiding the heroes through galactic challenges. Safdie’s Bowser Jr. emerges as a new antagonist, while Kamek, voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson, appears in direct conflict with the protagonists. Yoshi’s introduction fulfills fan anticipation, solidifying his role in the ensemble.

Illumination and Nintendo produced both The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and its predecessor, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, which earned over $1.3 billion globally. Chris Meledandri and Shigeru Miyamoto served as producers for both films. Matthew Fogel wrote the screenplay.

The trailer aired during the 2026 Super Bowl between the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots, broadcast on NBC and Peacock. The teaser highlights the film’s “gravity-defying scope” and continues the franchise’s evolution into “a genuine space opera.”
