The Super Mario Galaxy Movie releases new clip at Game Awards 2025
Nintendo unveiled a new clip from The Super Mario Galaxy Movie during The Game Awards 2025, giving audience an expanded look at the studio’s next major animated release. The sequel builds on the success of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and once again pairs Illumination producer Chris Meledandri with Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto as they continue to develop the franchise for the big screen.
The new video shows Mario and Luigi’s first run-in with Bowser Jr. The brothers appear inside Princess Peach’s castle when Bowser Jr. bursts in, carrying a paintbrush that shifts shape as he prepares to fight. He demands the return of his father, saying, “I’m Bowser Jr. and I’m gonna be taking my father… NOW!”
As confirmed in earlier trailers, Bowser has been shrunken and confined to a miniature fortress hidden within the castle. Luigi attempt a polite greeting to defuse the tension, which immediately fails as Bowser Jr. launches an attack. The confrontation escalates quickly, with Luigi landing a brief counterblow. The clip has generated significant enthusiasm among viewers.
The sequel features a mix of returning and new cast members. Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Jack Black, Keegan-Michael Key, and Kevin Michael Richardson reprise their roles. Meanwhile, Brie Larson joins as Rosalina and Benny Safdie voices Bowser Jr.
Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic and written by Matthew Fogel, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie expands its cinematic universe. The film will open in North American theaters on April 3, 2026, followed by its Japanese release on April 24.
