Peter Safran recently opened up about the future of the Conjuring universe, hinting that more spin-offs are likely on the way. The producer noted the appeal of the film series and said there is “a lot of fuel left” beyond The Conjuring: Last Rites. He also added that both new movie and television projects are being considered.
Peter Safran says ‘there is a lot of fuel left’ in the Conjuring universe
The producer of The Conjuring franchise maintains that the series still has significant potential. Speaking at a recent Warner Bros. preview event, he said the success of the latest film has shown that audiences remain invested in the supernatural universe.
Peter Safran shared, “I think that Last Rites shows that there is a lot of fuel left in the tank.” He clarified that Last Rites closed the chapter centered on Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, who portrayed Ed and Lorraine Warren in the core films. However, there is still material the creative team has not fully explored. (via Entertainment Weekly)
“It was the end of that particular version of the story with Patrick and Vera and that version of The Conjuring. There’s so much more to it that we haven’t dug into,” Safran said. “I think there’s really exciting ways to go with both film and television, frankly. It would be incredibly satisfying. People have been on this journey with us for a dozen years now. I think they want more.”
Safran also highlighted the positive reaction to the newer characters introduced in Last Rites, particularly Judy Warren and Tony Spera. “The introduction, in a real way, of Judy and Tony, I think, people love. The feedback we got was they love those characters. So I think that there’ll be more to come,” the DC Studios Co-CEO said.
Overall, Peter Safran did not confirm specific Conjuring spin-off projects or timelines. However, he made clear that the franchise remains active behind the scenes.
