What happens in The Christophers trailer?
The Christophers trailer sees McKellen playing a man, Julian Sklar, who was “once a star of London’s 1960’s and 70’s pop art explosion.” In the present day, however, Julian “hasn’t painted in decades and has been broke for years.”
The official synopsis continues, “His two estranged children, desperate for an inheritance, hire Lori, an art restorer and former forger, to pose as a prospective assistant in order to access 8 unfinished canvases Julian has buried deep in storage. Her plan is to complete them, then return them to storage, where they are to be ‘discovered’ upon Julian’s death.
Jim Parks and Iain A. Canning both produce The Christophers, while Michael Schaefer, Mike Larocca, and Corey Bayes serve as executive producers. The film held its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival last year, where it received positive reviews from critics. It currently has a 97 Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes with 31 reviews.
Soderbergh and NEON recently collaborated on Presence, the David Koepp-written supernatural movie starring Lucy Liu that was released last January. Last year, Soderbergh also had Black Bag, a spy movie distributed by Focus Features that came out in March.
The Christophers will be released in theaters in New York and Los Angeles on Friday, April 10, 2026. This will be followed by a nationwide rollout.
